Develop Products that Saves Lives
Devastating infectious diseases cause suffering for millions of people around the globe. Our portfolio of programs comprises diseases that kill more than six million adults and children each year. These diseases have different etiologies, symptoms, global footprints, and challenges. Nevertheless, we have a singular goal for each: to develop products that save lives.

The Need
Our portfolio of programs comprises diseases that kill more than six million adults and children each year. Here are some examples: Tuberculosis (TB): Nine million people become sick with TB every year. Nearly two million die from TB each year. Each person sick with TB infects 10-15 more each year. Leishmaniasis: Leishmaniasis threatens about 350 million people in 88 countries.
1-2 million people become sick with leishmaniasis each year, including 500,000 with the deadly visceral form. 70% of those who die from leishmaniasis are children. Leprosy: You may think leprosy is a thing of the past, but leprosy is enemic in 24 countries, exposing 1.6 billion people. Approximately 800 new cases of leprosy are found every day. About 4 to 5 million people suffer from leprosy or have deformities due to leprosy. Malaria: Although malaria has been eradicated in North America and Europe, there are 250 million new cases of malaria each year in developing countries. Increased resistance to standard drugs and insecticides exacerbates the threat of this disease. Children under 5 bear the greatest burden of this preventable disease.
About Infectious Disease Research Institute (IDRI)
Partner since January, 1970
Devastating infectious diseases cause suffering for millions of people around the globe. For many years, most of the investment in addressing these global health challenges was focused on basic disease research, while nearly all product development efforts were focused on larger markets in the developed world. At IDRI, we are the bridge between knowledge and action. We combine our passion for improving human health with the understanding that it is not just what we know about disease, but what we do to change its course that will have the greatest impact. Developing products that solve intractable global health challenges is what we do, and we have a track record of doing it successfully. Our unique product-based approach to fighting infectious diseases has already yielded novel diagnostics, vaccines, and treatment strategies that are protecting and saving lives. With deep relationships in the academic and corporate arenas, IDRI unites the best of the research and development communities. Our partnerships with businesses, nonprofit foundations, and government agencies give us unprecedented access to cuttingedge technology and financial support. IDRI is the catalyst that transforms these resources into practical and effective products that improve the health of individuals and communities across the globe. Today, we are focused on eradicating tuberculosis, leishmaniasis, leprosy, malaria, and other important diseases. As the global health arena evolves, our commitment to improving human health and our pragmatic focus on products should allow us to continue translating science into global health solutions. The diagnostics, vaccines, and therapeutic approaches that we have enabled have made a difference in millions of lives. We remain committed to helping millions more.
